The Senior Mobile Team, named “ECLIPSE” is BISM’s newest program for older blind adults who can’t get to one of our campuses.
Many older blind adults face barriers to blindness skills training. One of the biggest barriers is a lack of transportation to BISM’s training centers. BISM believes all blind people deserve the tools to live the life they want, so ECLIPSE brings that training to you, wherever you are in Maryland or a surrounding state.
ECLIPSE stands for:
- Empowerment: Building the path to personal independence.
- Confidence: Teaching nonvisual skills for safe and active daily living.
- Learning: Practical training on new techniques and adaptive tools.
- Inclusion: Connecting with resources and opportunities within the blindness community and beyond.
- Positivity: Reframing blindness as a manageable part of life.
- Self-Advocacy: Giving you the voice to navigate your needs and the needs of other blind people.
- Education: Tailored workshops and presentations for individuals and groups.
ECLIPSE participants have access to:
- In-Home Training: One-on-one instruction in nonvisual skills, delivered where you live.
- Tailored Workshops: Sessions on living with blindness, or on working with blind and low-vision people.
- Presentations: Talks on blindness delivered by blind professionals.
- Assistive Technology Training: Instruction on smart devices and other adaptive technology.
- Support Groups: In-person and virtual groups for older blind and low-vision adults and their families.
ECLIPSE is dedicated to reaching blind and low-vision seniors who can’t come to a BISM campus, bringing the same independence and confidence-building training we offer at our locations directly into homes and communities across Maryland and surrounding states.
Join us and discover how BISM can help you regain and sustain your autonomy.
