When Juhi Narula isn’t running BISM’s Youth Program, she’s either in the front row of a show, by her favorite stand-up comedian or creating new ice cream flavors in her kitchen.
But what makes Juhi truly inspiring is that she does all of this while living with blindness.
Diagnosed with Cone-Rod Dystrophy at just four years old, Juhi’s vision has gradually declined. But instead of letting it hold her back, she faced the challenge head-on, determined to live life on her own terms.
Juhi found strength in the blind community and gained confidence through learning how to cook, read, write and travel as a blind person. This journey led her to BISM, where she discovered a passion for helping others find their independence.
Juhi first connected with BISM through the GLIDE (Gaining Leadership, Independence, Direction, and Experience) program, which helps blind and low-vision youth prepare for life after high school. For Juhi, this program was a turning point, inspiring her to push boundaries and encourage others to do the same.
After graduating from college, Juhi’s path crossed with BISM again when a friend told her about an opening for the Youth Program Manager position within BISM’s Independence Training and Rehabilitation (ITR) programs. This opportunity, which Juhi describes as her “golden nugget,” allowed her to combine her passions into a fulfilling career.
Now, Juhi teaches the same skills that transformed her life—advocacy, leadership, and independence—to young people facing similar challenges. She is proof that with the right support, blind individuals can thrive.
Thanks to your generosity, BISM can create stories like Juhi’s — stories of growth and independence. Your support makes it possible for more people like Juhi to pursue their passions and lead fulfilling lives.
