Peter J Salmon Employee of the Year Award Background
The Peter J. Salmon Employee of the Year Award was established in 1968 by the NIB Board of Directors. The award is named after the late Dr. Salmon, one of the nation’s outstanding advocates for people who are blind, who was instrumental in the passage of the Wagner-O’Day Act in 1938 and the formation of NIB and who served on the board of directors of NIB in its early years.

It is with great pleasure that we award Mr. Brian Fredrickson for the 2023 Peter J. Salmon Employee of the Year Award. Brian has been a retail associate for the Dover Ability One Base Supply Center since August 2008. Brian is responsible for greeting all customers entering the store, checking out customer purchases, evaluating inventory, stocking, and replenishing shelves, as well as safety and general cleanliness of the store. His bright smile and cheerful greeting make everyone feel welcome. Brian is an essential part of the Dover team. He is eager to assist any customer whether they come through the front door or call in on the phone and he is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the customer is satisfied. Brian has impeccable customer service skills. He is well versed in the store catalog; always shares his product knowledge. Brian demonstrates a high degree of flexibility in his job and willingness to assist customers and fellow associates alike find or complete any task. Brian has a great work ethic and positive attitude about the work he does. He always dresses professionally and arrives at work on time ready to get down to the business of the day; setting an example for all to follow.
While at work, Brian uses various pieces of assistive technology to get the job done. He has a hand-held magnifier that he uses when putting products on the shelf in the store. Brian makes use of Windows Magnifier when operating the computer registers to check out customers and other tasks related to inventory control. Outside of work Brian enjoys spending time with family. Brian loves reading books, especially those written by Lee Childs. Brian also enjoys a good game of chess and has played with members of a club located in the Milford, Delaware area. Another one of Brian’s favorite past times is playing video games.
As a member of team Dover’s AbiliyOne Base Supply Center Brian shines. Brian has attended government credit card trainings where he has had an opportunity to speak about his work at the Dover base supply center. He engages in conversation with customers on matters that relate to blindness, sharing his own personal experience and bringing to attention how he positively changes people’s views on blindness.
It is for these reasons we selected Brian Fredrickson as the Peter J. Salmon Employee of the Year Award.
