Industry Partners
Established in 1938, the AbilityOne Program is administered by the U.S. AbilityOne Commission®, an independent Federal agency whose statutory name is the Committee for Purchase from People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled. The Commission has designated National Industries for the Blind (NIB) and SourceAmerica® as central nonprofit agencies to help administer the Program. More than 440 nonprofit organizations employ these individuals and provide quality products and services to the Federal Government at a fair market price. BISM is a proud member of the AbilityOne Program.
National Industries for the Blind (NIB) is the nation’s largest employment resource for people who are blind, and through its network of associated nonprofit agencies, is the largest employer of people who are blind in the country. NIB’s impact is made possible through the sale of SKILCRAFT® products and services produced and delivered by people who are blind. BISM is proud participating manufacturer of SKILCRAFT® products.
National Federation for the Blind (NFB) is the oldest and largest nationwide organization of the blind. Through their network of blind members, they coordinate many programs, services, and resources to defend the rights of blind Americans, and provide information and support. BISM is pleased to be a part of the NFB network.
State of Maryland’s Preferred Providers. BISM, the entity designated by law to produce supplies manufactured and assembled by processes involving blind workers. At BISM, there are a variety of products that are made, manufactured, remanufactured, or assembled by blind and low vision associates for the State of Maryland.
Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) is an agency of the Maryland State Department of Education and is composed of the public vocational rehabilitation (VR) employment services program and the Disability Determination Services. The public VR program includes the Office for Blindness & Vision Services (OBVS), which specializes in helping people whose primary disability is blindness or vision loss.
