Tommy’s Story: 30 Years. One Home. A Life Changed.

Tommy Cole, Sr., first came to BISM as a child, blind since birth, and looking for a white cane. He had no idea he’d later spend more than 30 years with the organization that would change his life.

In 1989, Tommy joined BISM’s production team. Over the years, he took on new responsibilities with the organization, learning skills he didn’t know were possible and finding not just a job, but a place where he was valued.

“You just have to come to work, put your best foot forward, and be open to learn,” he says.

Tommy even met his wife at BISM, and over the years, they raised a family and have shared 24 years of marriage. Now retired, he still participates in the BISM book club and enjoys playing the piano in his free time. And he never forgets the place that helped him build a future with dignity and independence.

“BISM may not be your last stop, but it’s a great stepping stone,” says Tommy. “The programs teach valuable skills, build confidence, and lead to opportunities that blind people might not have otherwise.”

Your support makes this kind of stability, pride, and purpose possible. Thank you for helping build lives like Tommy’s.
