The BISM- Raleigh textile operations group manufactures military uniforms for our nation’s military. We are known for our outstanding quality, excellent customer service and on-time delivery.

What we do:

We cut and sew and distribute contract military tactical gear.

What will you do:

Operate sewing machines to perform related sewing operations in the manufacture of garments.

You Will also:

  • Conduct comprehensive training sessions for new hires on the operation of various sewing machines (e.g., single needle, coverstitch, overlock, double needle).
  • Provide ongoing training and skill development for existing employees to enhance their sewing techniques and machine handling skills.
  • Develop and update training materials, including manuals, videos, and hands-on exercises.
  • Demonstrate proper use of sewing machines, emphasizing efficiency, precision, and safety.
  • Teach employees to troubleshoot common machine problems and perform basic maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure all trainees understand the operational capabilities and limitations of each machine type.
  • Instruct employees on quality standards and inspection procedures to ensure finished products meet company specifications.
  • Monitor trainees’ work and provide feedback to ensure adherence to quality and efficiency standards.
  • Collaborate with the quality control team to identify and address training needs related to quality improvement.
  • Educate employees on workplace safety standards, including proper handling of sewing machines, ergonomics, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain records of training sessions, attendance, and progress of trainees.
  • Prepare reports on training outcomes, identifying areas for improvement and making recommendations to management.
  • Work closely with production supervisors and managers to identify training needs and develop tailored training programs.
  • Provide support to the production team by troubleshooting machine issues and offering expertise on complex sewing techniques.

What knowledge skills and abilities do I need?

Prior experience operating sewing machines, preferably industrial sewing experience.

As well as:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in sewing machine operation or textile production preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sewing machine operation within the apparel industry.
  • Proven experience as a trainer or in a supervisory role is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of various sewing machines and apparel production processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for training documentation and reporting.
  • Capability to lift and move sewing machines or materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Preferences:

  • Prior industrial sewing experience.
  • Prior technical sewing machine experience.
