Blind Industries and Services of Maryland's Salisbury Senior Support Group welcomes Maryland Secretary of Disabilities and Lieutenant Governor Nominee Kristen Cox on October 25 at 12 p.m.
Blind Industries and Services of Maryland's (BISM) Salisbury facility, located at 2240 Northwood Drive, is proud to host Maryland Secretary of Disabilities and Lieutenant Governor Nominee Kristen Cox on Wednesday, October 25 from 12-1 p.m.
Secretary Cox will be meeting with BISM's Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) Senior Support Group to discuss issues, concerns and answer questions about how to best live with blindness. Ms. Cox, blind since childhood, has spent much of her professional life as an advocate for the blind and disabled, and the VIP members are excited about her visit.
The VIP group is for seniors (ages 55 and older) who are dealing with vision loss. In addition to providing a group setting for support, VIP members take part in weekly training classes such as Braille, cane travel, independent living, cooking, computers and music therapy. VIP members also enjoy group discussions and meetings, guest speakers and community outings.
Since its establishment by the Maryland General Assembly in 1908, BISM has provided training and employment opportunities for blind people of Maryland. With over 400 Associates, the majority of which are blind, BISM manufactures more than 150 products at facilities located in Salisbury, Baltimore and Cumberland. Our innovative training division offers programs that teach real-world skills and build self-confidence for blind and visually impaired people of all ages.
Secretary Cox' visit to BISM's Salisbury location gives the Eastern Shore media a rare opportunity to report on one of the country's most intense political races, while appealing to senior and disabled viewers and readers interested in the issues that most impact their lives.
If you have any questions regarding Secretary Cox' visit, please contact Mr. Ennamorato. For more information about BISM, go to www.bism.org.
