Blind Students talent on display at ShowBISM
Baltimore Headquarters May 5th 6-9 pm
Baltimore, MD - Students and Staff from Blind Industries and Services of Maryland's (BISM) CORE Training Program present ShowBISM on Saturday, May 5th from 6-9 p.m. The fun-filled event includes a homemade chicken dinner, silent auction, and musical variety show. Professional jazz pianist George Spicka and vocalist Charlene Cochran will also perform.
The impressive vocal and acting talents of our unique CORE Training students, who will perform their own original skits, will be on display from 7-9 pm. The doors open at 5:30 pm and dinner will be served at 6 pm. Ticket prices range from $10-$50 per person.
Proceeds from the evening benefit the BISM Buddies Fund, which supports activities for CORE Program participants. The funds from ShowBISM will aid students with the cost of attending a national blindness convention this July. The convention unites blind people from around the world for a week of interaction, lectures, new technology, and employment opportunities. The convention gives CORE students an opportunity to utilize all of their skills developed at BISM, while being exposed to other successful, independent blind people.
BISM’s CORE Training is an intensive, eight-month residential program that provides comprehensive life skills instruction for blind and visually impaired adults in Braille, cane travel, woodshop, computer technology and home management. The program attracts adults throughout the region and is designed to help students develop the self confidence and skills necessary to live independently and compete in the job market.
