Blind Industries and Services of Maryland announces new
Senior Support Group in Ocean Pines
The Arbor at Ocean Pines - June 13 - 11 am-12 pm.
Ocean Pines, MD - The Salisbury-based Senior Services division of Blind Industries and Services of Maryland (BISM), a not-for-profit organization that provides training and employment opportunities for blind citizens of Maryland, has created a new Senior Support and Blindness Skill Training Group for the Ocean Pines region.
The support group is for seniors coping with vision loss and will meet on the second Wednesday of each month at The Arbor at Ocean Pines, located at 11202 Racetrack Road in Berlin, MD.
The purpose of the support group is to provide Adjustment to Blindness training. BISM will offer instruction in independent living skills, such as cooking, sewing, handwriting and craft making. Seniors will also be introduced to books on tape and assistive technology, better known as talking devices. We will have discussions about coping with vision loss and seniors will be able to socialize with other blind adults. Braille and cane travel instruction will also be offered.
The senior support members will learn how to accomplish everyday tasks using non-visual, innovative methods. BISM Senior Services is dedicated to providing blind and visually impaired seniors with the skills, confidence, and support to remain self-sufficient or to regain their independence.
