BISM Senior Services presents a one-day Senior Workshop

Chestertown, MD - The Senior Services division of Blind Industries and Services of Maryland (BISM), a not-for-profit organization that provides training and employment opportunities for blind citizens of Maryland, will hold a Senior Independent Living, Vision, Education & Readjustment (SILVER) workshop on April 24 from 10 am-3 pm.
The workshop takes place at the Heron Point senior living facility, located at 501 E. Campus Avenue in Chestertown. Twenty-eight blind and visually impaired seniors, ages 55 years and older, have registered for the workshop.
PThe BISM Senior Services staff will provide participants with one-on-one and group instruction in cane travel, communication, independent living, computers, and Braille. The workshop includes lunch and a group discussion, and each participant will receive a completion certificate and life enhancement gift bag.
The workshop members will master how to accomplish everyday tasks using non-visual, innovative methods. BISM Senior Services is dedicated to providing blind and visually impaired seniors with the skills, confidence, and support to remain self-sufficient or to regain their independence.
The SILVER workshop is an excellent opportunity for local media outlets to witness the positive impact Blind Industries and Services of Maryland has on the community.
The following is the schedule of events for the SILVER workshop:
10:15 am – 10:40 am – Group Discussion
10:40 am – 11:50 am – Independent Living and Communication
11:50 am – 12:15 pm – Computer Demonstration
12:15 pm – 1:00 pm – Lunch
1:00 pm – 2:10 pm – Braille and Cane Travel
2:10 pm – 2:30 pm – Surveys completed by participants
2:30 pm – 3:00 pm – Certificates and Life Enhancement bags distributed
