Blind Industries and Services of Maryland to be recognized by Maryland State and House for 100 years of service to community

Annapolis, MD - Blind Industries and Services of Maryland (BISM) will be officially recognized, via resolutions, by both the Maryland House and Senate on Thursday, February 21 at 10:30 am. BISM is celebrating its 100th Anniversary of providing comprehensive services for blind citizens of Maryland.
Following the recognition by the House and Senate, BISM President Frederick J. Puente will honor Senate President Mike Miller, Speaker of the House Michael Busch, and Delegate Norm Conway with BISM Centennial Awards. The award presentation will take place during the BISM-sponsored luncheon for the General Assembly at the Governor Calvert House in Annapolis. The luncheon takes place from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
The Centennial Award will be presented at each of the planned events to celebrate BISM’s 100th year, and future Centennial Awards will be bestowed to Maryland elected officials, dignitaries, and private citizens who have supported our organization throughout the years.
Since its establishment by the Maryland General Assembly in 1908, BISM has offered innovative training and diverse employment opportunities for blind and visually impaired people of all ages. BISM employs over 400 Associates, the majority of whom are blind, and manufactures more than 150 products at facilities located in Salisbury, Baltimore and Cumberland. Our nationally acclaimed training division offers programs that teach real-world skills and builds self-confidence for adults, seniors and youth.
The Maryland General Assembly recognition and luncheon kicks off a year of festivities and community events:
April 26 - Bull & Oyster Roast – BISM Baltimore Headquarters - 6:00-11:00 pm
June 13 – Delmarva Shorebirds baseball game – Perdue Stadium, Salisbury - 7:05 pm
July 19 – Spaghetti Dinner and Open House – BISM Cumberland facility – 4:00 pm
September 19 – BISM Pro-Invitational Golf Classic - TBD
November 22 - 100th Anniversary Gala - National Aquarium in Baltimore – 6:00 pm
